When I was in grade 3 and 4, I lived on Vancouver Island. I lived in an area where there were so many berries. I loved my garden because my family planted strawberries and raspberries. There were even wild blackberries everywhere.
At this time, I called my grandma Baba. The child in the story below calls his grandma Okoma. What do you call your grandma?
This is a very simple story about a child picking berries with his grandma. The boy is Cree, just like the boy in our class story that we read together. I thought you would enjoy learning the Cree words in this story.

Before moving to Prince George, I lived in a small town called Kemptville, Ontario. There was a young child in that town named Ryan Herljac, who was inspired to change the world after learning that not all children have access to drinking water in the world. He learned about this at school after studying about water. There is now a street named after him in my old town in Kemptville, Ontario.
Ryan was just a normal every day boy with a big heart and a big dream. I want you all to know that I think you all have the potential to change our world. Never stop thinking big and working toward your own dream.
